While in the area you may want to visit
Lake Fork, known worldwide for its bass fishing or Lake Tawakoni, fun
for recreation or fishing.
Be sure and visit the A. C. McMillan African American Museum during your visit. It is open on Saturdays and is located at 418 South Texas Street (Highway TX 19) in Emory (903) 474-0083. The Rains County Historical Society has a historical park West on US 69 (next to the Rains Public Library). Here they have begun collecting various historical buildings, churches and houses from around Rains County. Visit the printing press office to see presses donated by the Rains County Leader from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Other buildings include the Luckett House, Shady Grove Baptist Church and Robinson Gas Station. Visit the Rains County Courthouse in Downtown Emory. Our courthouse was build in 1909 and is currently being restored to much of its original design. On US 69 Northwest of Emory is Point. Historically known for its cotton gins and farming, it is also the birthplace of the National Farmers Union in 1902 which celebrated its 100th anniversary in Point on March 2, 2002. Each Saturday night visit the Cotton Pickin' Theatre for some "Branson Style" country and gospel entertainment.
